Turn the block upside down to remove the rods.  (They will not fall out into many pieces as they are attached at the base.)
It is not recommended to take your Kapoosh knife block completely apart or submerge it in water.

Tips for cleaning the "rods" -
Remove the rods and place them on the top rack of the dishwasher keeping the heat cycle off. You may also hand wash them (this is the recommended method).  Once washed, let sit upside down approximately 12 hours to dry out. Then, fan out and let sit for a few more hours to completely dry. If used frequently, consider cleaning once a month. 

Tips for cleaning the “shell” –
Take a damp cloth with mild soap and water to wash out the inside where the rods are stored. If you are using a mild soap, rinse the cloth to remove the soap and wipe again with water only on the damp cloth until the soap is removed. Repeat the same for the outer shell. While the shell does not require monthly month, a minimum of 2 cleanings per year is recommended.
